I prefer to put them on each side of a navy-blue front door, together with driftwood details, coiled rope mats and old lanterns. Their amber LED light creates a soft light which is also functional during the times after the sunset.
These figurines are effective in my design work on the houses with clapboard siding or light stone fronts. When it comes to design, I would suggest putting these playful characters on each side of a porch staircase or besides planters. The trick here is to coordinate the look of the gnome costume and the lantern with the feel of your exterior design, such as copper or bronze finish on traditional houses, and matte black on contemporary porches. Wooden benches and slate tiling, alongside them, complete the storybook feel.
Personally, I can say that in addition to the joy they bring to children and neighboring houses, these figurines also serve as a minor security measure. The society would want to hang around a home that has warm lighting and lovely guardians. I would also recommend the usage of solar-powered lanterns in case your porch is not wired. That would put your gnome guards to more use and less maintenance.

It is impossible to deny the fact that a realistic cat statue peeking between porch railings is undeniably cute. I have incorporated these figurines in over one project to add some element of humor and familiarity in the design- particularly to pet lovers. These cat figures, whether painted resin or faux stone, slide between vertical balusters tight enough so they appear to be staring at each guest movement.
This concept is especially effective on wooden or iron porch railings, and in smaller entryways where there is not a lot of space on the floor. I have put them on stair railings or behind potted plants. Keep surrounding furniture to a minimum, maybe a wicker chair, a small shoe bench and some hanging ferns, to allow the figurines to be the fun-filled center of attention.
I, personally, adore this method, as it can easily encourage discussion. Actually, one client claimed that her cat figure crockeries greeted better than her dog. Apartment Therapy once pointed out that small sculptural surprises like these create “moments of joy” that elevate ordinary spaces.
You may wish to develop this theme further, with several cat-, or feline figures, some sitting, others curled up, to resemble the actual pet behavior. And a small variation constitutes a long way in making it plausible.

On a more country cabin-type project I had two wide-eyed owl figurines on the porch beams over the seating area. Not only did these realistic statues make a striking contrast to the naked wood, but they also created a kind of symbolism; wisdom, mystery, and protection. In my opinion, owl figures would look outstanding in cabins, woodland cottages, or those homes that embrace the nature-inspired design.
It is all about elevation. By placing these figurines close to the ceiling or at the top of posts, the eye is led upwards and the vertical space is well utilized. These figurines are exquisite with natural fabrics such as rough timber, burlap pillows and stoneware pots. they do not litter the floor, and swing-benches or woven rockers may be used.
I adore the fact that these figures are peaceful but at the same time possess a sense of security. Most owls are synonymous with being watchful and some even have in-built solar eyes or LED features. Houzz says that bringing in the element of wildlife gives your porch decor layers of storytelling and invites your guests into a theme.
To finish it off, why not incorporate some artificial vines or planters which lead towards the owls. It will also camouflage them in the surroundings.
Frog Kings Sitting on Stone Thrones
Frog statues in royal attire were one of the most ridiculous client demands that I have ever had. We set them on the bottom of two stone steps, each with a faux scepter and golden crowns. These statuettes transformed a simple garden porch into a funny and grandiose entrance, which is exactly what families that like something quirky but fancy would need.
These statues can be put on already made stone plinths or large ceramic planters. They would look best on eclectic or cottage-style porches in bright colors and patterned tiles. Combine them with ivy-covered planters, wooden benches and mosaic welcome signs to create a near fairytale atmosphere.
These frogs, at least in my experience, attract attention as few others. One visitor described them as the Game of Thrones of garden ornament. Even Southern Living suggests figurines having a story twist to make a high impact porch decor.
To finish off this appearance I would include low garden lighting or path lanterns that would lead the eye to the thrones. It unites the entire composition and accentuates the figurines in nighttime.
